Schwinn Firewire 4.0 for $200?

Postby d0z3r998 » Sun Jul 26, 2015 6:17 pm

Been looking for a decent bike for exercise. Probably all on pavement. So far this Schwinn for $200 seems to be the best bang for the buck. I've been looking at tons of Craigslist ads too. Please tell me if I should be looking elsewhere. http://www.target.com/p/schwinn-elite-series-mens-firewire-4-0-29-mountain-bike-red/-/A-13901893#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=schwinn+firewire (it drops to $207 at checkout, and there's a coupon code for another $5 off lol)

I want to slap the one reviewer. He's an idiot.

For what it comes equipped with, it's a good bike. The xcm already puts it ahead of 99% of department store bikes. The integrated head tube keeps it ahead of the last .5% . lol. The downtube concerns me. Looks odd, and like a weak point. But the Schwinn elite series is looking pretty awesome. I'd say, go for it.

Also, it's a 29er, if you guys didn't click the link.

Would a Triax Fat Tire for $185 be a big step down? A fat tire sounds fun, but I don't want to sacrifice a lot of quality. Here's the link: http://www.target.com/p/men-s-triax-fra ... A-16448078

That depends on if you want a single speed bike or a geared bike. I'm not a fan of single speed mountain bikes, so me personally, I wouldn't waste my time on it. Not saying it's a bad bike, just not my style. Mongoose does have some geared options, but they cost a bit more.

I second the motion that is a very good deal and a automatic go most anywhere ride. The rear cassette is hg31 and weighs the rear down but hg51 have been on sale for as low as 16 usd.Other than that it looks spot on right out of the box and the reviewer didn't tune the rear or front derailleur because when you do shifting is spot on and fast enough for most everyone with Shimano altus.

Thanks for the responses! I'm glad the schwinn is a decent bike. Unless I find something better on craigslist soon, it looks like I'll buy this one.
