Downhill is insane here with ten foot drops and 20ft landings. The Blackcomb could not complete this course because of lack of suspension travel. This is red bull rampage stuff right in my back yard with multiple launch ramps hurling you down the mountain.Photo at the top shows a 6ft dirt drop at the end of the course which bottomed out both front and rear suspension making me lose control and flying into the bushes.

Yeah, the epicon isn't made for such drops! Lol. That's the only reason I haven't decided to follow through with downhill on my blackcomb. I got the front able to take big drops, but the rear suspension just doesn't have enough travel. Heck, even as it sits now, me just sitting on the bike, the sag eats up half the rear travel, and that's with the DNM at nearly max pressure. If I could fit a 7.25 sprung shock I could be okay, but my 6.5 is the biggest I can fit, unless I make some custom bellcranks to fit the longer shock (something I want to try, but it'll be easier to frame swap, in the end).

Falkon I was thinking about how you would love this course as I was tumbling down the side of the mountain lol :D Iam just sticking to single track from now on ,and your right that the Blackcomb is just too limited to try anything like these courses as is any bike that is cross country based.Lucky I did not break anything yesterday on the bike or myself.

Lol. Well, the blackcomb is in a weird spot. It was built like a tank, but the geometry suggest that it should have been 10lbs lighter. Lol. There is some potential for a big hit bike, but if just needs to fit a bigger shock.

So, as it sits right now, the rear is taking a majority of the weight when static. The front takes up a bit at landing, but the rear still bottoms out. I'm almost tempted to pull the rear off the xr250 and transfer it over to the blackcomb with custom bellcranks to see if I can alleviate the lack of tear travel.

The bike is tough as nails but it is not made for extreme courses just because the impacts bottom the suspension out. There are many courses where there are multiple 2 or three foot bunny hops in sucession where the Blackcomb actually excels at it, but not one story drops and 20 foot landings. These types of courses demand a true downhill bike or someone who is willing to take serious impact.I in all honesty cant think that taking this type of serious risk is anything more than stuntman type stuff and most mainstream bikers would be lucky to land the big jumps on a regular basis.

Well, that's why my fork has such big travel. 7" of travel in the front, but 2.5-3" travel in the rear won't cut it. Need at least 5" minimum for DH. But that's why I want to do the modifications.
