Check 1st, pcm

Idle air only affects when engine down to near idle rpms. If its not opening properly you will stall when you go to stop. 99% of the time tapping hard with a ratchet handle will cause the idle to freak out and possibly stall or rev high.

Vacuum leaks will cause high idle/rough idle when sitting still.

Map sense will also cause random stalling, refusal to restart. Provided pcm is perfectly good to go, unplugging map sensor and a few start attempts will cause pcm to set default value and allow it to start. Run like crap but it'll start up. Then plug back in and it'll freak out if its bad, or smooth out if its ok.

Problem is its so old and carbon has plugged everything up, plus a shorted cranksensor would have played havoc on other sensors in its circuit. So use wiring diagram to figure out what other sensors (dont remember off the top of my head) are on the same circuit and start there.

Also throttle position sensor issue can be over ridden with pedal input. They won't fail all the way through the travel of the pedal, just random spots on the internal slide contacts.
