MTB in an RV Park!

Postby wa_desert_rat » Sun Jan 11, 2015 6:54 pm

The wife and I have escaped the cold of central WA and are spending a couple weeks at an RV park near Coarsegold, CA. This location is only 27 miles from Yosemite's southern entrance and at an elevation of almost 1800 feet usually has cool winters. Not, apparently, this winter. We were on our way to AZ when we stopped for a night or two here and discovered that it was warmer here than most of AZ.

So we've stayed.

This particular park, Park Sierra, is a co-op RV park affiliated with the "Escapees" RV club. The Escapees (also known as SKP) are a group of RV enthusiasts who have banded together to form several RV parks which are accessible only to club members (under $100) a year. They have an internet forum, several owned RV parks and several more co-operative parks (owned by members of that park who are also members of SKP). It's an interesting concept and seems pretty successful.

This particular park has a 40-acre area adjacent to the parts where the RVs park that is wild with a mile-long Jeep track winding among oak trees, evergreens, massive granite outcroppings (even an area of "slick rock") and water features (a creek). The park itself is very hilly but the MTB area is only moderately hilly. Excellent riding. I'll post some photos from my cell phone.

Price is $21 a night including cable TV, 50-amp as well as 30-amp and 20-amp electrical hook-ups, water, sewer, and amazingly good WiFi (RV parks are notorious for having crappy WiFi). If you are an RV enthusiast you should at least check the SKPs out: www.escapees.com

Sounds like a thrill. I always look for slick rock to ride too.

Hey, my pleasure. The RV park is called "SKP Park Sierra" and is near Coarsegold, CA. They had never even realized what a great little mtb trail they had until they saw us riding it. LOL

http://parksierra.net/ is their website. Don't be put off by the "membership" thing. Right now it's $29 a year or something. www.escapees.com is the club web page.

Lots of the members are older ... or old.... ok very old. LOL. But the parks are immaculate. Not sure which ones might be 55 only though.
