My Mongoose Impasse HD build

Postby nick_n_ii » Tue Jun 09, 2015 2:49 pm

Well I've been away from biking of any kind for roughly 15 years. About 8 years ago I bought a junky Hyper FS that I was way to heavy for.

Well I wanted to get back into riding again for some time. So i bought a Mongoose Impasse HD 29er after some research. And I'm plan loven it. But being who i am i can't ever keep well enough alone. So the upgrades have been ordered and just started rolling in. Only current upgrades installed are Giant alloy seat post and my Bell seat.

Parts on hand waiting for install:
-Odi grips and locks
-Orion Pro-Pulsion ally low rise bars
-Iron Horse 29x2.0 tires.

Waiting to get dropped off by the "Big Brown Santa":
-RockSox XC28 forks (100mm travel)
- Shimano M395 hydraulic disc brakes(front and rear)
-Shimano Acera M390 Front Derailleur
-Shimano Altus 7/8SPD Square Crankset

So far I've logged about 100 miles in the last 2 weeks. And I've just about wore out the rear tire. So upgrades on the way..

The rear section of the frame looks different than other Impasse HDs I've seen - is it a Wal Mart mongoose or did you buy thru another source?

I like it - it's just different from other 29'er Impasse/Deception frames I've seen

Here's a link to the one I found:

It's Blue and the rear frame is different:

I did find one identical to yours (at least their pic is identical) but this seller seems kind of sketchy to me - would prefer to buy from a Big Box Retailer, never heard of "upcycled Savings":

Me likes RED better :)

I like it...Simple low cost parts that should be reliable...Looking forward to seeing it completed.

Hi all sorry been busy riding the snot out of this bike. I'm loven it.

Bike was bought from my local Meijer($249) store, same as the bike sold at Dunhams($400). I have seen it at WalMArt, but all those bikes have had plastic pedals and off brand rear derailer. Mine came with a Simano rear derailer and some really nice metals pedals.

I will work on getting some better pics..

Yeah - the frame on the Mayfair bike is different for sure, but the Upcycled Savings bike looks like a copy of yours.

Both bikes claim to have a Shimano derailer and an SRAM twist shifter. Not crazy about the twist shifter but oh well it's a $250 bike.

We had Meijer's up in Michigan, but there are none of them down here in Texas - I will look around Walmart and the Dick's sporting goods/Academy Surplus stores and see what I can find.

If all else fails, I can order from Upcycled Savings. Thanks for the reply - glad the bike is working out for you.
