It's not a big box bike in the true sense but it is a Bikes Direct Dawes Bullseye which is a very reasonably priced option as well. It splits its time between being a single speed and multi-gear. Upgrades include a second wheelset for making the ss-multi switch easier, Deore XT drivetrain for multi-gear commuting, Specialized S-Works tires, Juicy 5 hydraulic brakes, Felt stem and Sychros flat bars. I also have a Tora TK suspension fork I can throw on. Even with all this, including the price of the bike, it still comes in at well under a $1000.

NICE BIKES!!!!!!! I dig the color on the Genesis too. I bet you haven't had any problems with that bike either!

Just the usual BB replacement. Rest of the stuff done was for upgrade purposes. Actually thinking of getting another Genesis for the Wife to ride. Can't find a Deception around here at all but my Genesis is set up pretty nicely now. Wife could ride hers "stock" and be ok except for the BB changeout.

The first pic at the top of the page is before painting my Deception with Krylon Satin Black paint. This is the result after painting and adding Shimano Alivio Front/Rear Derailleurs, a Shimano Alivio Crankset and Shimano Sealed BB.

It was a few pennies over $270. I purchased the forks from price point http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/21776- ... bit-DL.htm and I picked the Hayes mx4 caliper at the local LBS for $40.
