Kentucky Road Race

West Sixth Brewing-Lexington, KY is presenting.. Blood, Sweat, and Gears an urban alley cat styled race.
August 31st in Downtown Owensboro, KY to benefic St. Benedicts Homeless Shelter
this will be a multi check point style race where each rider chooses their own route with street maps and a manifest
there will be an after party at Gambrinus Libation Emporium

Sounds like a fun race. Let us know how you do.

Glider pilots race in much the same way now. In the old days they'd give us a course to fly and we'd have to take a photo of the turn points (with the wing in the photo to show we turned outside the turn point) and then we were graded on time plus handicap.

Now we self-select from an assortment of turn points and use a GPS recording device to prove we flew the course. We can simply fly back and forth on those turn points or add others to make a course. Then, when we land, we turn in the GPS recorder to the judges and later on they announce the winners. Still handicapped by type of glider, though (so it's the pilot who wins, not the aircraft

The cool thing is that spectators can follow the race by watching computer readouts of these recorders which can send the info in to an on-line server.

Racing is lots of fun (unless you lose LOL)
