Crispy's Mongoose Seek'r

Postby CrispyJiggler » Mon Jul 21, 2014 4:54 pm

It has been a while since I have posted, but I finally am getting around to it. I want to start by saying that this bike had been a bit of a headache. Freewheel fell apart in my first 20 miles, handlebars bent in the first 100 (while pedaling on the street, I may add). But after a few bucks and some TLC, she is coming together.

Parts:
Shimano shifter/brake combo
Shimano 14-34t freewheel
ODI ruffian grips
Kendatire Nevegal x 2.35" tire

Wish list:
Saddle
Handlebars (ordered)
Pedals
Bash guard

After I finish with the last bit there, I think I am about finished upgrading this joker.

Cool bike. You did the right thing by ditching those stock shifters right away. This is the first bike I've ever worked on, and I'm glad that you confirmed what a hassle it is.

The more I look at your pics, the more I like those brifters. I didn't go with brifters because I prefer grip shifters, but if I ever switch to the trigger style, I'll probably try out some brifters.

Also, I really dig those tires. I'm going to buy some tires soon. How do you like them? Have you ridden them on pavement? I do a fair amount of pavement riding in addition to trails and singe track, so I don't want to go too wide. I was thinking about 2.1", but I'm curious to know how you like those wide tires? What kind of terrain do you ride in?
