To 650B or not to 650B? That is the question...

The industry is coming out with new riding formats and 27.5 looks like a keeper. Here's where you talk it over with other riders.

To 650B or not to 650B? That is the question...

Postby Ridin_Dirty » Thu Nov 20, 2014 5:06 pm

Hello, everyone. Just wanted to get some current thoughts on the 27.5 and how it compares to the 29er. I see many of you have experience with both. I'm thinking about getting a hardtail next and wasn't sure if I should lean toward the 650b route. What have been your experiences, so far? Is the 27.5 really the best of both worlds?

For a fast bike I would just go straight into a 29er. My 650b is a great fun bike, but nowhere near as fast as my 29er's. If you like riding AM technical courses, switchbacks and jumps, go with the 650b. It's great to maneuver and slightly faster than the standard 26 inch. For fast XC type cycling, go with the 29er. Demo both bikes and see what feels good to you. Some riders at my local trails are plenty fast on the 650b platform. Guess what ever feels best to you would be your bike :D

Wicked nailed it on his reply.

I rented a Kona 153 DL in Colorado and man was I getting away with murder at Monarch ! Only bad thing is I can't stop scratching that itch I have for a 27.5 :( I might just give in.
