Mongoose D40 mountain bike upgrading

Postby froeljakes » Mon Jul 20, 2015 5:05 am

I recently started upgrading the components on a Mongoose D40. I started with swapping out the factory wheels and put a set of Matrix wheels on it. The Matrix wheels were pretty weak. I then replaced them with used Kettler wheels which were true and in almost new condition. I then upgraded the v-brakes to a set of Promaxes that were on my Specialized Rockhopper FS. They were an excellent upgrade. I put Avid v-brakes on the Specialized. I mounted Maxxis Minnion DH 26×2.35 tires on the Kettlers. The rear wheel got an upgrade by improving the rear cassette from 7 to 9 speeds with new Shimano cogs. The seatpost upgrade replaced the old, short steel one to a used, but good aluminum one with single bolt attachment and a Bontrager mtb racing seat. The best upgrade I made. was the Truvative Elita GXP cranks with Hollowtech, the bottombracket fit perfectly. The next upgrades I plan to make are to the fork and rear shock. I want to get a fox 40 downhill fork, and a Fox rear shock. I am trying to find a rear swingarm with disc brake mounts, and a set of hydraulic calipers for the new suspension parts. If anyone has any suggestions or some advice, I would like some feedback...
