replaced all the cables today....kinda weird how they did cables on schwinn bikes back in 72....the rear deraileur cable was a PITA...more so where it runs behind the crank....was really hard to get the cable housing in the guides and you also have to thread the cable itself through a pinhole....I got the front one, ended up just running housing all the way to the deraileur and using zip ties to hold it in place.... next is bar tape

took the bike somewhat apart today for more cleaning, wheels off, chainrings off etc etc..... soaked them in engine degreaser and used small brushed and steel wool for the tough stuff...... turned out real good

Are those 1/2" or 9/16"? I have my old Fuji pedals sitting around. They are 9/16".

finished up the bearing repack on this.....someone has been in the rear wheel at some point....it still had decent grease in there..... but the axle was bent.... thought I might need to go buy a new one and stumbled across a good one in my parts bin.... was able to use the money for a blinky light to put on the back..... it is pretty much done for now.....

while installing the brake cables I had noticed the rear brake lever was kinda thrashed...... turns out the drop bars are bent too.....so I dug through my parts bin and found what I needed for a handlebar conversion.... didnt have any flat bars but I did have some riser bars........ I rode it this morning and think I like this setup better than the drop bars

well the grips from my parts bin didnt want to stick to the handlebars, so I picked up some schwinn grips at walmart( I work there now...lol... I have mentioned to them I would be interrested in an assembler position if it comes available) I also ditched the guard on the front chainrings, was a little banged up.... soon as the wheels get trued this is done... for now at least..lol
